nvironmental sustainability and economic and social development. These are the cornerstones on which the activity of the Mercedes-Benz factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz has rested ever since it began its activity in 1954. Throughout this period the Alava factory has managed to establish itself as a leader in terms of environmental sustainability, and has contributed both to economic development and to improving the quality of life in the area surrounding it.
The Mercedes-Benz Group and, with it, the Vitoria factory, have promoted a social commitment that has been embraced by all those making up the group, from its managers to its employees, through a binding Environmental and Energy Policy.
This commitment is reflected in a long-term commitment that the factory has integrated into its strategy since its inception and that constitutes one of the cornerstones on which the success of its activity, and its continuity over time, are based. This commitment is based on two Environmental Management Systems and Energy Management Systems, certified since 2002 and 2013, which guarantee efficient, high- quality, safe and green production. EMAS accreditation, a Community environmental management and audit certification that the Vitoria factory received in 2013, attests to its transparency, the veracity of its data, and legal compliance.
The scope of this commitment can be seen in its day-to-day activity, through its active environmental protection and pursuit of comprehensive energy optimization.

The Basque factory has contributed to economic development and to improving the quality of life in the surrounding area
These actions are aimed at ensuring compliance with the environmental and energy policy, which is comprised of several commitments and actions allowing the Vitoria Factory to stand out as a leader in sustainability in recent decades.
